Classroom Activities:
Word Funs for
English Classrooms:
So
many questions...
11-If
horrific means to make horrible, does terrific mean to make
terrible?
12-"I
am" is reportedly the shortest sentence in the English
language.
Could
it be that "I do" is the longest sentence?
13-If
lawyers are disbarred and clergymen defrocked, doesn't it
follow
that
electricians can be delighted, musicians denoted, cowboys
deranged models deposed, tree surgeons debarked, and dry
cleaners
depressed? (Teachers, of course, would be declassified!)
14-Why
is it that if someone tells you that there are 1 billion
stars in
the
universe, you will believe them; but if they tell you a wall
has
wet
paint, you will have to touch it to be sure?
15-Do
Lipton Tea employees take coffee breaks?
16-What hair color do they put on the drivers licenses of
bald men?
17-I
was thinking about how people seem to read the Bible a whole
lot
more
as they get older, then it dawned on me . . . they're
cramming
for
their final exam.
18-I
thought about how mothers feed their babies with tiny little
spoons
and
forks so I wondered, what do Chinese mothers use?
Toothpicks?
19-Why
do they put pictures of criminals up in the Post Office?
What are
we
supposed to do, write to them? Why don't they just put
their
pictures on the postage stamps so the mailmen could look for
them
while
they delivered the mail?
20-How
much deeper would oceans be if sponges didn't live there?
