"The Silent Man"
Do you
know that poor old man who cannot speak?
"You
mean that man in gray beards?"
"May
be the one in shabby clothes."
"It
must be that beggar over there."
Let me
tell you who he is:
He is
as old as he is kind;
He is
as poor as he is good;
He is
as silent as he is sound.
Three
times a day he comes to the mosque:
Early
in the morning, at noon time and in the evening;
And he
says his prayers without saying them:
He
holds his wrinkled hands to the sky;
He
turns his tired eyes to the sky
And he
moves his colorless lips meaningfully.
Before
and after each praying time he stands at the mosque door
Watching in silence the noisy crowd passing him
indifferently
And
after a while he goes in the same way that he comes:
silently and alone.
Maybe
he cannot use his tongue,
But he
knows the most useful Language;
Maybe
he cannot talk to people
But he
has the most attentive Listener;
Maybe
he is poor and old and alone
But he
talks to God and walks with Him three times a day.
